The basic idea, proposed in 2005 by Dr. Reza Derakhshani and Dr. Arun Ross, is to use the pattern of blood vessels of the eyeball (the white of the eyes), which is unique to every individual.

(2012 May) EyeVerify unveils the technology, stating that it is easy to acquire with usual cameras such as smartphone cameras.

The verification process is :

2. segmentation (4 regions of interest)
3. image enhancement
4. feature extraction
5. matching
